Tansy is a native crop in Asia and temperate Europe that bears the characteristics of a perennial and herbaceous flowering plant. Apparently, the plant bears a variety of significant merits and demerits that make it quit popular altogether. The plant has common synonyms that range within golden buttons, cow bitter, bitter buttons and tansy. So what are some of the physical characteristics posed by the plant? Tansy can be described as a flowering herbaceous plant that bears finely divided compound leaves with some yellow button like flowers. Apparently, the plant bears a reddish colored stem that may range in the height of between fifty and one hundred and fifty centimeters. The stem bears an erect stem that tends to branch at the top. This essay seeks to discuss the apparent characteristics of the plant, from which we shall be able to understand the merits and demerits posed by tansy as well as its uses that range from prevention of diseases to the development of drugs and insecticides altogether.



The plant has been grown in various parts of the world. For instance, in Colorado it has been grown as a companion crop. Since time in history dating back to the nineteen forties, the mosquito repellant has worked quite successfully in most households from which the latter has been used to develop pesticides such as tick repellants.

Despite the merits discussed, some demerits can include the development of dermatitis in some individuals. Apparently, research on the plant has reflected the development of toxic metabolites once the plant is taken internally in the process of breaking the oil produced by tansy plants in the digestive tract as well as the liver. Basically, the plant is quite popular in most biological aspects inclusive of the production of antibacteria, anesthetics, allelopathies, carcinogenics, fungicides, herbicides, insectfuges, nematicides, sedatives and testosterone hydroxylase inducers.

In a bid to understand the influence of tansy on pregnancy and the latter effects, it is quite important to note that the plant has been used in flavoring omelets and puddings. Apparently, the plant has over the years been used as a medicinal herb despite the eminent risks it poses from its toxicity. In reference to pregnancy, the plant has a significant effect to menstruation. The latter effects pose a negative effect to pregnancy. From this point of view we can consider the properties of tansy to be quit negative towards pregnancy, an aspect that calls for pregnant women to avoid or minimize using the plant altogether. The latter properties of the tansy plant can be used for other medical purposes other than being recommended for pregnant women. These negative aspects are posed or emanate from the plants emmenagogue effects.
